Hate Thy Self, Hate Thy Own People

As the rest of the world prepares to say goodbye to Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela one of the greatest champions of racial equality, here in America we have Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas decimating the Voting Rights Act of 1965 a landmark piece of legislation from the Civil Rights era.

I’m no expert on Thomas but all I see is someone who in one way or another has benefited from legislation to protect his and other African American rights,  side time after time  with prejudice and injustice. To what end?

If slavery was back on the table Thomas would  be the first to shout out lynch them n*****s!

This is another stain on the old Star Spangle Banner.

I think they will call it a win.

    • A Rethuglican head on every fencepost in Texas! Release your inner Vlad!

Maybe tonight, until the Courts overturn it!

The AP has reported the bill passed, but the Democrats are holding that vote in contention because it violated the rules. I don’t think anything else will happen tonight, but I’m not certain. There is a constitutional crisis in Texas. I wonder if the Governor has any say over the matter? Does Rick Perry have a role to play in this? The Lieutenant Governor has more power in the State Senate than the State Governor. He came in and suspended the Filibuster, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst.

“Wildly outnumbered in the Texas Legislature, Democrats didn’t have the votes to beat back the bill earlier in the special session. In this session, Republican Gov. Rick Perry added abortion bills to the special session’s allowed bill topics late in the game, which created the opportunity for Democrats to try to run out the clock and stop the bill from final passage before the session ended at midnight Tuesday night.”

It seems that due to suspending the filibuster by way of a technicality, “germane.” It allowed the Republicans to stop the filibuster, but because the vote came after midnight it is technically invalid. Also, the means in which it was stopped is open to debate, however the Lt. Gov has that power, though it is open to speculation that he may have violated rules in reaching his suspension?

Tonight is perhaps the height of hypocrisy by the Republican Party.

This guy needs to be impeached! He’s a menace to democracy.

    Updated at 12:25 a.m.

Over the sustained and screaming protests from spectators in the gallery, the Texas Senate tried to vote on a divisive abortion bill with only minutes to spare in the special session after Republicans managed to break a nationally watched filibuster by Sen. Wendy Davis.

The deafening screams drowned out the vote results and any appeal for order as troopers slowly emptied the gallery. Some had to be dragged away.

Even after midnight, it was not apparent whether a vote had been taken or if the bill had passed.

Republicans said it passed 17-12. Several Democrats said midnight had passed while the vote was still being taken.

  6. termgirl says:

182,000 people were watching as the clock struck 12:00.
GOP now voting to change the meaning of Midnight.

  7. Any white man who still says he’s a Republican needs to be flogged. Any woman who says she’s a Republican need to have her head examined. This is Fascism, in all of it’s glory.

  8. termgirl says:

    Mainstream media is obsolete.
They missed some real drama tonight.
    Who needs them?

  9. termgirl says:

    Those fucking GOP HYPOCRITS.
Wendy gets a demerit for adjusting her back brace, but they make up the rules as they go along.
    God…. I detest them.

  10. termgirl says:

    “Hypocrites”…… sorry.

  11. Haruko Haruhara says:

Someone edited Wendy Davis’ Wikipedia page to call her the “LeBron James of filibustering”

In Dystopia- The State attempts to close them down. The Federal Government intervenes and guards the clinics, thus setting the stage for the opening act of a revolution.

As much as I abhor guns, I’m beginning to feel the need. I’m beginning to wish I hadn’t insisted that R rid our home of that Chinese assault rifle. A guy gave it him when he couldn’t pay him for some work R did for him. I went ballistic!!

Look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHzf2Zn6IE4 .. This is alarming. .

    • That’s the mentality of the Right – if you don’t knuckle under to their demands, they’;; beat you down or take you out. Sheer thuggery.
