She is politically savvy, funny and a conscientious  human  being with a rich life surrounded by good friends and loving family, singing wise she is a cross between Luciano Pavarotti and Nicki Minaj  okay maybe to sing in part will be a stretch–  Happy Birthday TG!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good morning Realm, guess what our boy Teddy was doing yesterday morning ?

AKRON, IA – Opening day of pheasant hunting season in Iowa found Ted Cruz a long way away from his native state.

Shortly after sunrise, the Republican Senator from Texas descended the staircase at the Hole N’ the Wall Lodge, dressed head-to-toe in khaki, with only the toes of his cowboy boots peeking out.

Rep. Steve King, the firebrand congressman representing this district in rural northwestern Iowa who has taken to hosting up-and-coming conservative politicians on pheasant hunts, was there waiting, with an entourage of a dozen other hunters.

“There’s all kinds of birds out there, Ted, and it’s a record hatch. It’s a perfect morning, the temperature’s just right,” King said. “There’s nothing more eager than a bird dog on opening day except maybe you and me.”

Asked if he, like 2011’s pheasant hunt guest of honor Texas Gov. Rick Perry before him, was in Iowa preparing for a presidential run, Cruz demurred. “That’s a very dangerous comparison on a lot of fronts, not least of which is Gov. Perry is a lot better shot than I am.”

(btw – They all said a prayer so no one would get shot in the face)

This Tuesday marks the one year anniversary of hurricane Sandy. Looking back one year later at the superstorm’s unprecedented toll on the northeastern US.

New York City estimated costs in the five boroughs at $19 billion, including private, public and indirect expenses. About $5 billion was incurred by agencies for health and housing. And the area’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority suffered another $5 billion due to flooding in eight subway tunnels.

Damage to subway lines — closed for weeks in some places — was the worst in the system’s 108-year history, and the New York Stock Exchange — shut for two days — experienced its longest weather closure since 1888.

East River inundations in lower Manhattan were unprecedented, and the neighborhoods of Red Hook in Brooklyn and Long Island City in Queens saw severe storm damage.

Media reports referred to the Staten Island areas of Midland, New Dorp and Oakland Beach as ground zero.

Because of shortages of crude oil, gas rationing in New York City lasted 15 days. Repairs to the power, gas, water and sewer lines in New Jersey alone are estimated to total more than $4 billion.

Having been a former resident of south Florida for 20 years (including living through Andrew), I followed this storm via Jeff Master’s blog on http://www.wunderground.com as it brushed by Florida (my brother lives in Melbourne). As the storm reorganized over the Atlantic and headed for the Northeast, I remembered thinking, now the rest of country is going to see what Florida lives with for half the year, every year. And I’m thinking of moving back there ??? It’s like playing Russian roulette. Time to have my head examined.

      WOW! hard to believe no?

I just went back to look at the threads for that day because I remember how insignificant it appeared to us that night. It was only after the morning news crews showed the devastation that it sunk in.

That night there was a crew covering the South Street Seaport, a place we frequent a lot in the summer, and there was little flooding maybe an inch of water. But it appears everything south of the mid-20s got hit hard.

Learn the lesson that night, never underestimate the storm.

I remember replying to people on HP who lived on the coast up there. I said gas up your car, gather your insurance papers, and get the hell out now, don’t wait.

I remember all the rude trolls on HP going, “who cares? Pfft, some hurricane. Wimpy east coast liberals.”

Man, some people just flat suck.

      Hi Caller,
The author of this new book former New York Times reporter Philip Shenon, wrote a similar book regarding the investigations into 9/11, which he also dismissed as gov’t. incompetence which could have easily been prevented.

While I do wholeheartedly agree that there are a lot of morons in the bureaucracy we call our gov’t, I do not believe for a second that 9/11 occurred by the extraordinary confluence of coincidences regarding the superlative intelligence on the part of the “hijackers” and the lack thereof in our US agencies.

Grrrr. hunter wakes us up at 7 a.m. on a Sunday because he sees deer bounding from the ditch across our property to the river and he wants to cut across our land to chase them. He’s too bloody lazy to walk a lousy 200 yards down the road and cut over to the river. Grrrr….

Needless to say, we said, “No!”
