Something has been bothering me since this whole latest episode with HP unfolded, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on what it was. Tonight, it hit me.
Who do Arianna and the Huffington Post think they are?
They speak like they are somehow the guardians of the world wide web.
I know it is all a ruse, but it still annoys me that they talk about “civility,” like it is the be-all and end-all of on-line experience. (“Pretty please, Mr. On-line Bigot. Will you refrain from calling my gay daughter a Godless pervert?” Is that civil enough?) Fine…. It’s their website, and they can make the rules for their own site, but they don’t preach specifically about their own site. They broaden it to include all of the internet, and how they think it should be. It’s not that I don’t appreciate good manners, or that I don’t think there should be moderation on social networks; It’s their condescending, we know what is best for the world, attitudes and their glaring hypocrisy that I find so annoying.
By recommending that we all “unplug” for an extended period of time, Arianna took it one step further. Now she’s not just telling us how to behave on the internet, she’s telling us when we can use the internet.
Well, unplug that stick up your butt Arianna. Mind Your Own Damned Business.

Thank you for sharing! I agree with what you have written. They act as if they indeed are guardians for the internet. The whole “unplug” thing is such a crock. Next thing you know they will try to have online Yoga classes and wheat grass cooking shows. One great community my Klingon backside.

The whole “Third Metric” idea isn’t her idea, she likes to be seen as the champion of it but let us not kid ourselves, she is saying that crap to fit in with people simply to get them to support her causes which in turn will gain her more notoriety and possibly profit. In other words it’s like a rich person who suddenly grows a conscious and wants to live their life like the people who don’t sell their bleeping soul to gain fame and fortune, yet the whole while the rich person only can find true happiness seeking more fame and fortune.
Can’t argue with that, neb.
