Here ya go Jack!!…Cross Canadian Ragweed Boys from Oklahoma…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3UR8jGhE5U
Nice little ditty!
This kind of music is one of the few kinds where I listen to the lyrics…mostly I’m hooked by the sound of a band or artist….sensory thing.
Love it. Though when I read “they’re too damn skinny of way too long”, I first thought of the people of Oklahama, and they’re not skinny. Course, then I understood 😉
“Bad Day at Black Rock” is now starting soon on TCM!
What is that? you don’t you have a DVR?
It is a 1950’s movie starring Spencer Tracey. He is a WWII vet the takes a trip to a small desert town to pay a visit to an old friend, it has a ton of stars Robert Ryan, Ernest Borgnine (Outstanding in this movie) Lee Marvin, Tracey’s character has one arm and the lowlifes in the town give him a hassle because they have a secret that Tracey reveals. It has one of the best fight scenes in movie history: http://youtu.be/A2o3QWwwQLI !
There’s a terribly depressing documentary about North Korea on NightLine now.
I would love to visit there…bet it’s really weird!!
Greetings again! I once watched a documentary that about North Korea about a person who smuggled a hidden camera into a work village and the person was following around the children in the village who were starving, they were picking food up off the ground, mere scraps left behind. It was so depressing. I’ll look into the NightLine episode right now.
Just switched….Helix is on Syfy!
Hey Dood, I’m back. Just finished with Helix. Still trying to figure out what to make of it.
You may be off to Turner Classic Movies by now Neb but I just finished up with Helix. Interesting, but not quite sure what to make of it yet.
HOORAY!! Did you watch pilot and vector?
yes saw both. Not sure after only 2 episodes. For a supposed “serious” drama, it has moments with great potential for some major mst3k riffs. Like leaving that young doctor in the isolation room with those 3 exposed people who were more than just a little pissed off for having to be in there.
Neb made a comment about the female veterinarian…remember what happened to her?
Oh god, now I’m trying to remember. She was dissecting the hairless monkey when that other infected women doctor came in. Which reminds me, why wasn’t she wearing the whole bio-hazard suit when she was doing the dissection ? Reminds me of Red Letter Media’s movie review of Prometheus when everyone took their helmets off. The reviewer says “I woulda left my space helmet on, juuuuuust in case”.
They determined it wasn’t airborne transmission…but she was attacked by that monkey in that room! No skin was broken but you know how the virus is transmitted! 😉
Who’s to say that while she’s cutting up that infected dead monkey she doesn’t accidentally squish some internal organ and get monkey juice all over herself. I woulda left my effin haz-mat suit on, juuuuust in case 😀
She’s a professional…wouldn’t squish stuff I guess. I’ve read some books on the CDC….they are VERY careful in real life!
if it were me cutting up an infected dead animal, I woulda kept my suit on, just sayin.
You know what they say….no guts no glory….er whatever
HA! I guess. 😀
But after-all they only brought 4 specialists with them. So, they had to spread out to get more work done, but I agree about the scene in the isolation room. One would think they would have better security in there, like armed soldiers with suits on.
At least some security detail to watch that young woman doctor especially with that freaky infected spiderman-like brother on the loose. What the hell.
Adds to the suspense!
Yeah well now that two-timer Jules got it while in the shower. Right in the kisser.
I think the vet got infected when she was attacked!
In one of the ads for Helix, it shows her running down the hall in a hospital gown, so who knows what’s going on with her.
The monkey was on her face…I think she got infected! The monkey was still alive so maybe it’s a clue to the cure!
ok, well now you’re thinking way ahead. Are you sure you haven’t seen the third episode already ? 😀
Nope!! I want to be surprised!! I haven’t watched anything like this for a long time…it’s fun!
Who infected the spiderman-like brother? It might have been from the mutagens, but it seems like there is something else going on with that angle, perhaps the head of the station? At the end we do see his eyes look different.
There is a lot more behind that I’m certain. Darn Military-Medical complex!
Probably some degree of truth to that….the things we don’t know…
Yeah and what about that secret sibling hand signal he left in his video diary that meant “run like hell”. What was that all about. That corporate guy with the contact lens seems like an alien or something. And what’s with the infected people and the black goo ? Reminds me of the black oil from X-files.
Gonna have to keep watching! 😉
yup. When they first asked “where’s the monkeys” I said aught oh, Peter (the infected brother) is the monkey now.
That was pretty creepy them all frozen out in the snow!
yeah like what happened here?
I figured that was how they disposed of them.
Yeah I get that, but why ?
Dunno…no other way? Virus would freeze? Maybe we’ll find out later!
part of the suspense.
Yep…I’m liking it so far!
good, axious to see how it unfolds 🙂
Me too! 🙂
I can see the similiarities with the black oil, but I think it was just that the flesh liquified, that scene was gross when the young CDC member opened that body-bag.
Yeah, reminds me of an episode of Bones. That show can have some really gross-out scenes too.
I haven’t watched that much of it yet, but it looks interesting.
Neb, I think you would find this article interesting. I posted it earlier, but no one seemed to understand the importance. $765 million settlement against the NFL tossed as being “inadequate.” I think this is a big deal.
I caught a conversation about that on Sportscenter earlier. I agree with you, it is a big deal. If the judge feels that that sum wasn’t enough it is going to force the NFL to pony up more money. In the conversation I heard they mentioned the compensation for young players who have been forced to retire getting around 3 million. The NFL is going to regret they didn’t get on top of this when they started making more money since eclipsing Baseball as the modern pasttime.
I also saw an interview with a former player who was calling the NFL’s new promotion for youth football being nothing more than propaganda. I think it is called “NFL Heads Up”
The game is going to change because of the attention to head injuries, and it is already affecting the youth participation.
To be honest, if they have to pay more out, so be it. It is not like they are going to suffer in profits.
I think they owe minimum of $2 billion. Remember these guys played in the 70s and 60s, when salaries weren’t that high.
They need to address it and stop trying to haggle with it. Just set in place a compensation package to cover those from those era’s. They were fortunate the Frontline episode didn’t take the hammer to them. They have issues right now, I don’t know how they have skated by in regards to steroid use, etc. If the NFl doesn’t take a pro-active appraoch, given the mood about the danger to the sport affecting kids, it could in the future cause problems, but I think those will be minimal considering many see the risk worth it to get a high salary, millions, but having said that the salary cap rules put in place a few years ago has prevented draft picks from gaining 10’s of millions right out the box.
The whole sport, from Pop Warner, High School, College, then Professional is raking in so much money right now that in the end it really isn’t about the player as much as those who can profit off them.
They just advertised about a documentary next week on Front Line about this very thing!
Well I’m watching this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KB33ZyMcVrs I get most of it.
Now I don’t feel so well………
I think the reason I like watching it in Spanish is that I miss words like blood sausage and tongue.
I get to go to some dinners around the city I have tried some of the yuck foods. surprisingly I like duck terrine, snails are not too bad, Frog legs are good and so is gator meat. in spring I like to go to Chinatown for the quail eggs. no way on earth I’ll eat blood sausage—– although a few years back I had it when I visited Puerto Rico. I also had some pickled pigs ear, That I liked. of course at the time I had no idea what it was.
I’ve had gator…tasted like a pork chop…the frogs legs I had were “gamey”….I can be adventurous….just gotta be in the right frame of mind!
I don’t mind the “gamey” taste anymore, I actually prefer it. As long as you have some good beer it’s all good.
I thought they were supposed to taste like chicken!
gak, please I just had a very pleasant meal.
Thanks for the warning.
Good evening, my friends!
Snoy!!!!!!!!!!Tell me something good my brother.
We’re making it, my friend. Dam tough, but we are determined. I am gratified that God has given me such loyal and dedicated associates. We are all in this together…they inspire me with their hard work and dedication. I hope I can reward them financially next summer when things turn.
I hope only the best for all of you. I wish my and employers had my best interests at heart.
Hugs, my friend!
Hi dood! Good to see you.
Greetings, Sno! Such a treat to see you!
Good evening, my talented friend!
I hope all is well for you and yours. How is the grocery store doing?
I was wondering whether Willy de Ville (one of my heroes) is really not very well known in the USA, as I’ve read repeatedly. He was really big in Europe, and toured a lot here. Here’s a link:
Grottenolm!!!!!!!! Did you dream of Montevideo?
I must say I never heard of him but that’s the great thing about a place like this we always learn something new. now we have a couple music guys here that may know him.
Hi there Jack, “fearless leader” 😉
No, I didn’t dream of Montevideo, but I woke up real happy. I keep planning, though, and that is such a nice thing do to. I have my ticket (ida 9 de Abril, vuelta 11 de Mayo), but am still thinking about which apartment to rent. It has to be downtown, though, so I that I can check out the city (I love to do that), take a few trips into the interior, whatever comes to mind. The boat to Buenos Aires is very high on my list. Actually, it’s great that I still have so much time, more time in which to look forward.
How I envy you. you must spend some time in Buenos Aires. that’s going to be an epic trip my friend. total immersion. that’s what I did when I visited India, hell I took a plane to Goa after spending 15 days in the road. I landed there went to a cabbie and told him to take me to a nice hotel that was not a dump or that he was getting kickbacks from them. worked out great spend a week there.
I have a friend from Buenos Aires.
Is he from New Zealand or Canada by any chance?
No, she is an Argentine.
Like Che Guevera.
That’s the guy who tried to kill me on current TV.
Does she live there, or in Montana?
When I was younger, I used to take a month of vacation (no problem in Germany where 30 days paid vacation has been the norm since way back), usually in June or September, and traveled to Greece, Spain, France, Yugoslavia, Israel. I always went cheaply, first hitch-hiking due to lack of money, later by train or bus, with a backpack almost bigger than me (I’m only about 5’5″). Always met great people, and learned many things. Maybe that’s one of the reasons why I’m not afraid to travel far and alone at my age – without backpack and sleeping back though 😉 Some things do change.
So it’s really true, a musical giant like Willy de Ville is only known to experts in his own country. US musicians knew him though:
Willy with Mark Knopfler:
Interview with Bon Jovi and Willy de Wille on French TV:
I just watched the one with Mark Knopfler…you’re gonna have a great trip!!
Grin, what else? I will have to surf a little on Spanish sites to update my knowledge of that language. I like Spanish! When you talk about your age, you say “tengo sesenta anos” (= I have sixy years) . Not: I am 60, but I OWN these years. They belong to me. In my opinion that is a great way to treat age – by looking at it as property, as an asset, not a loss.
Oh yes…you gain much with age!! True the body starts to suffer a bit, but as I said before, you are young of heart and spirit…and can combine that with accumulated wisdom!
Exactly. Only Alzheimer can take that away from you 😉
that’s really good.
Hiya there Haruko. Hope you are having a nice day!
Greed. I have seen Greed. I would rather have a crust of bread at a pauper’s table…
than eat a banquet feast…wondering who was plotting on poisoning me.
The pauper’s table would be more congenial in my experience. hello there Wolf!!!!
Welcome to The Realm, wolf.
Grottenolm, next week, we are seeing these guys. Not from Germany, but nearby .. The Netherlands. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reGlno9aUpw
Haruko, that is a very nice video, and super music. Wow, and you’re going to see them next week! Where will you see them at?
In Montana, where it’s still Tuesday 😉
Where we grow dental floss on farms.
I see. I always did wonder where the Americans got it from.
Lonely as can be.
Quick technical question: My spellcheck hasn’t been working, any suggestions?
Is the spellcheck part of the browser?
There used to be something notifiying me about the spell check in my “ad ons” but I don’t see it there anymore.
maybe you need to update them. What browser are you using, Firefox ?
Right now it is standard Windows Explorer. It is on a laptop, I haven’t downloaded Firefox or Chrome yet, perhaps I should download Chrome?
Go for Firefox or Safari.
I think I figured it out. I had to download an app named Speckle.
Can you even use Safari with a Windows OS ? I thought it was specific to Apple.
Yes there is a Windows version.
Wow, Jobs covered all his bases I guess.
Yeah I would say Chrome or Firefox. I use Firefox as I have been using it for as long as I can remember. And I’m not especially fond of Google. But that’s just me. In any event do yourself a huge favor and stop using Microsoft Internet Explorer.
I like Firefox.
I think Chrome is better.
I’ve not tried it yet…suppose I should but I’ve been using Firefox for a long time now so I’m pretty comfortable with it….why do you think it’s better?
Bookstore. $7.95. Paperback dictionary.
Was that snark?
No, I’m serious.
Btw, Cylons and Leviathans don’t rule.
Leviathans do!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZKH4v5htFM
Hah! I promised Caller 8 I’d watch his Church Car video at the top of this page. Hilarious!
Hey you guys meet up? or is that on Wednesday?
Yeah, we met today. Was beautiful. Nice walk on the beach and lunch then nachos afterwards in a bar along the ocean in Capitola. Splendid weather. Probably around 77
I take it you did not try to off badger this time 😉 so where are the guys? it must have taken you sometime getting back home. I remember when you used to bike there, total nut job 🙂
😆 I should ride more, lost the holiday pounds. Caller 8 did the driving!
A guy like him probably drives a Cooper Mini.
did you have fun today? I’m always jealous of you guys. Did you make sure MsBadger didn’t get hurt again?
2 go up to see the ocean cliffs and one returns…
I dinna do nuttin’. She slipped, honest!
Everyone is fine! In the first week of February sometime Caller wants to check out Point Lobos just south of Carmel so maybe I’ll fix a picnic lunch and we might stop at the Monterrey Bay Aquarium as well.
Oh, Kiddo has been to that aquarium. She caught a baby leopard shark with her bare hands at Monterey Bay.
I saw the Jellies exhibit several years ago. It was really cool. I was not aware how luminescent the jellyfish are!
That is one of the places I visited on my Cali trip. best one I seen, although the grotto at Atlantis is pretty nice too.
When I think of Monterey, I think of John Steinbeck. My favourite author when I was in college.
Tortilla Flats was a good read. Really funny.
The first book I ever read in English was Steinbeck’s “Grapes of Wrath”. I must have been 13 or 14, and had to read it with a dictionary, but I loved it. Of course I’ve read all his other books since.
Q’Plah! Fixed my spell check!
Spell Republican scum dirty ass warmonger in a four letter word that is not a curse.
He said NOT a curse.
what up poet warrior
Sara (I’m saving the “h” for later).
Hi, Caller. Glad you made it home safe and sound.
Hey, you. Take care of MsBadger this time!
We just hung out and did what we always do.
I don’t believe what I just saw on German TV: David Hasselhoff (yes, The Hoff) is doing a commercial for German travel site check24.de! Well, he can probably use the money. I’ve never understood why my countrymen like him and his singing! so much.
I always thought he was about irony.
In the USA, he is about irony (to my mind, too). Here, not so much.
I respect the fact that he laughs at himself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgRJjLkYApI
True that. But I’ve heard him try to talk German before. He didn’t sound that good then. Well, he probably practiced. Practice makes perfect.
Well, so much for the next question I wanted to ask you, Grottenolm.. 😆 ….8-)
Do you know Baraboo?
Other than by the Dells and my brother got married there, not much, HH….8-)
It’s just to laugh at the American, we cringe. And ask the French about Jerry Lewis. A god of cinema. 🙄
Did you see your neighbor shut down the climate debate.
Love it, love that ending.
Guten tag peeps.
I had womb to tomb (developmental) psychology tonight.
Hi Copper, why are you taking developmental psychology ?
I thought he was talking about this place.
Hey whaddo I know ???
Honestly, it’s a pre-req. for PA school but I do find psych. interesting.
So what do they teach in developmental psych these days ? Do you still cover Piaget ?
Guten Morgen Coppernicus.
Guten Abend for me, guten Morgen to you Grottenolm.
Theory has it I come from German immigrants of the West Prussia (a lot of Margonin) and Hannover
On both sides? Westpreußen is in Poland now, and Hannover is the capital of Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony). But you probably know that.
This seems important.
Scientists re-create ancient Nordic grog
Tastes like chicken!
A historical recreation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R62puSMrwXE
