U.S. Presidents they forged a nation; along the way exterminated countless numbers of indigenous people. U.S. Presidents they expanded the nation; they saw brothers take arm against brother in the bloodiest war the has nation faced-they united the nation and took the first steps to right our nations biggest sin, the inequality of which still drenches our headlines, names of the innocent will reverberate in our minds until we die–Trayvon.
U.S. Presidents- they took the unwanted untouchable from other countries and said, ‘here, you can start anew.’ NOTHING was ever guaranteed, all they said is here is your chance show us what you have.
U.S. Presidents-they created national parks that endure time, even though they are under constant attack by the avarice. U.S. Presidents encouraged the creative spirit of our nation, never before did advances in industry and technology were seen, for the first time humanity took flight!
U.S. Presidents gave us social programs after the great devastation that turned our financial institutions into failed dreams, poverty and despair, a glimmer of hope in dark times. U.S. Presidents made the tough calls when the great war came, evil walked the earth and was defeated. When the world came close to being destroyed a U.S. President negotiated in favor of saving the world rather than face. Mutual assured destruction became part of our lexicon and the stuff that dreams are made of.
They are not supreme beings, U.S.Presidents, some have represented the worst in all of us but some, the good ones, have challenged us to do better to reach out to the universe. All we have endured can be revisited, we are irresponsible beings but I know that US Presidents of every creed, gender and orientation will be there to not only see us through our failures but to see us reach new heights. Thank you U.S. Presidents.
