Keep going Gramma, you can do it, if I can quit, so can you!

    • Hobette says:

Thank Fi! I’m feeling pretty good about it today. I really want to win this time!

    • Hobette says:

I owe you an “s.” :wink”

    • Hobette says:

Would you mind telling me about how you achieved success?

      • fi says:

Mr Fi promised me a new car if I stopped, I had never had a brand new one……………it worked with the help of Nicorette gum, fruit flavour 2mg.

      • fi says:

But I could still very easily light one up, once a smoker, always a smoker, you just need to break the habit, keep busy.

        • Hobette says:

Agreed. I keep reaching for it, but once I light it tastes awful. A few times I’ve reached for one and thought “WTH am I doing?” It’s like it’s automatic to light up. Crazy what thesethings make a person do!

          • fi says:

Get the gum, it very good.

          • Darth says:

You shouldn’t have them around #1, if they are in the house with you, you’re just setting yourself up to fail. Half measures won’t do it. flush ’em.

            • Hobette says:

              Please don’t tell me what to do, Darth. I just need support, not lectures. Thanks! {{{HUGS}}}

              • Darth says:

I do support you, that’s why I’m telling you the truth. It’s incredibly hard, I know, I’ve been there. Do not be offended. I say this because I care.

              • Darth says:

Also I’m an ex-smoker, and they’re the worst. I forget that sometimes. Sorry if I upset you Gramma. I’m far too blunt sometimes.

                • Hobette says:

                  I know you mean no harm Darth. There’s lots of suggestions out there. But ultimately this is my gig, so I need to do what works for me–take the ones I think will work for me. I’ve attempted this before, so at least I know this time what didn’t work. {{{HUGS}}}

Do gut bacteria rule our minds? In an ecosystem within us, microbes evolved to sway food choices
    http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2014/08/140815192240.htm

this diverse community of microbes, collectively known as the gut microbiome, may influence our decisions by releasing signaling molecules into our gut. Because the gut is linked to the immune system, the endocrine system and the nervous system, those signals could influence our physiologic and behavioral responses.”

Bacteria within the gut are manipulative,” said Carlo Maley, PhD, director of the UCSF Center for Evolution and Cancer and corresponding author on the paper.” “There is a diversity of interests represented in the microbiome, some aligned with our own dietary goals, and others not.”

  4. CNN is the only one reporting this. Keeping the coals stoked. Some radio caller who claimed she had inside knowledge claimed Michael Brown “rushed” the cop.

Why would an unarmed kid rush a cop with a gun drawn? There is no logic to that.

Goodnight folks, I’m really tired tonight.

  6. botanx9 says:

One thing I am certain of is that this police officer should be in jail and charged with murder.

    • Hobette says:

      You’re far from alone!

    • Grumpy Old Dude says:

Botan! Howyadoin’ Bro? Couldn’t agree more. This has the look of an execution.

    • RF Dude says:

Just like batters in a baseball game, the local police authorities keep scuffing dirt on the batters box lines to try to introduce ambiguity into the game.

Let’s hope the umpires in this one don’t fall for it.

BTW – who are the umpires today? Still the local cops AFAIK…

      • Hobette says:

Nat’l Guard came in this afternoon.

        • RF Dude says:

Hi Gramma! Yes, but only to enhance the already over-testosteroned police force. The investigation is still being led by the local cop-shop, DOJ has announced they will perform an autopsy but so far no other action (such as investigating the crime scene, the police vehicle itself, and the only other person who was there – the cop himself) has been announced AFAIK.

Hard to tell what is going on behind the scenes, but that is the real problem. Lack of transparency and apparent lack of concern for the original action (which is possibly a crime) with all eyes focused on the protesters and the actions of the victim just before he was shot.

          • Hobette says:

Agreed. It would definitely help if the citizens were given updates on the progress of the investigation. They could do that without releasing anything that might cloud the truth. What they’re doing right now is inciting riot–by not arresting the officer who has acknowledged he did it and holding him pending trial, but telling the public NOTHING about the progress, and by acting like an overtaking military force in their streets.

    A couple more livestreams

    First, a newbie: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/revandujo
He is at the McDonalds (I think), just got online and streaming.

This guy is down at the moment, will be back in 30 min or so.
    http://www.ustream.tv/channel/feelinsofly

FeelingSoFly is teaching people on the street how to livestream. THAT is the single best thing I can think of. Granted, these are not professional news reporters but leveraging the many cell phones out there capable of getting images out is good since the ‘professionals’ are all corralled in the Free Speech Zones well away from the action.

    • RF Dude says:

RevAnduJo looks like he’s off the air at the moment.

    • Hobette says:

I’m not watching tonight. I did last night for a couple of hours, and between the PTSD and the Chantix, the nightmares seemed unending!

      • RF Dude says:

It’s easy to get sucked into these things, I remember being somewhat fixated on the TeeVee news during the Rodney King riots back in the ’90s. Part of that was concern for whether my home (located well east of the area, but still only a few minutes away by car on the freeway) and family, and part of it was the fascination with the whole thing.

Stepping away is good, especially if you are well outside the area and not threatened by it. For us, this is a spectacle that we all hope never happens near our communities and we are trying to make sense of the whole thing.

There is no understanding, only witnessing.

        Peace to you Gramma.

        • Hobette says:

Exactly, RF. It’s hard to stay informed, try to make any sense of it all, and still stay peaceful inside. This is one case where avoidance is my only tool in the evening. I can still learn about it in the morning–which today it looks like SSDN 😦

  8. RF Dude says:

Activist World News Now has what appears to be an aerial shot from above and behind the McDonalds. Massive police presence in the street (W.Florrisant?) in front of Micky D’s, lots of blue uniformed officers but so far no camo’d troopers.

  9. Hobette says:

I’m off for a (hopefully) quiet, peaceful evening. Happy Peaceful Dreams Realmsters!

  10. botanx9 says:

I watched some live feed on MSNBC, this isn’t going to end well. They won’t let people congregate and gather together and are making them walk, no standing.

    • RF Dude says:

Large group marching on Florissant, police dispatcher on the audio feed saying that the crowd intends to “break the barricade” but then a few moments later indicates she doesn’t know which barricade.

    • Lizard says:

Remembering the LA riots from so long ago.

      • RF Dude says:

During the RK riots in LA, the burning and looting in S.Central LA went on for nearly a week. It was only when the activity started moving west towards the High Rent District (Brentwood, Hollywood, etc) that the Nat Guard was called in to put a ring around it.

The excuse for the delay was that ‘somebody’ needed to find the key to the armory, which was why it took so many days to bring in The Troops

The clear message, though, was that as long as the destruction was happening in S.Central LA it was A-OK but do NOT try to bring it into the more ‘civilized’ areas of town.

    • Darth says:

Controlled movement, crowd control. This will make them easier to disperse also, and potentially round up.

How Ferguson Highlights the Dangers of For-Profit Policing
    http://www.slate.com/blogs/moneybox/2014/08/18/ferguson_police_department_the_economic_incentives_that_make_cops_harass.html
no idea if this was posted, but it is definitely very true, the “monetizing”. Saw a similar report recently about how little area cops are now being pressured to buy into radar guns so they can ramp up their money-making with speed traps! The decades of reich-wing “thinking” on “privatizing”, and “monetizing” -EVERYTHING- (cuz you know, the market “invisible hand” -IS- the very infallible hand of G@D!!! can’t do wrong by “monetizing”!!!)

    • RF Dude says:

Red Light Cameras – my favorite pet-peeve. San Diego is reviewing their RLC program not because they are causing more rear-end accidents but because their cut of the take is so small. By the time they pay the State and The Company that actually owns and operates the cameras, the city only gets about $10 out of a several hundred dollar fine.

The economics of prisons is working out the same – it’s not cost effective to farm any of these activities out to private companies. When a public service is run as a for-profit business, the taxpayers will always lose.

      • msolomon2 says:

I had read about this yes! They’ve been pushed to buy into the traffic-light cameras also to “monetize” and exactly as you say, turns out they’re expensive to install and operate and they don’t even make the money they promise! Like pretty much all this “privatization” bullshit when the truth comes out we see clearly they don’t provide any good service, they aren’t more efficient, they cost more then the old ways of doing things. The holy-invisible hand is NOT infallible, is NOT the perfect hand of G@D in the world!

  14. RF Dude says:

FeelinSoFly is back on, showing National Guard ‘observers’ on the roof of the grocery store across the street from the Command Center.

If there are gunz on that rooftop, and there is no reason to think there are not, then they are ‘snipers’.

    ‘Nuff said.
