“Men know that women are an overmatch for them, and therefore they choose the weakest or the most ignorant. If they did not think so, they never could be afraid of women knowing as much as themselves.”
― Samuel Johnson, A Journey to the Western Islands of Scotland and The Journal of a Tour to the Hebrides
EDITOR: Johnson was acutely intuitive about future Republicans.
A few years back my tiny niece came home from school, her backpack was almost as big as she was…She was a bit upset that a boy was going on about “Boys rule, girls drool” everyone did the nurturing cuddle thing—she was the cutest little thing ( I hope I can say this without being liken to a sexist jerk) BIG doe eyes, she looked still perplexed so when it came time for me to give hugs and pretty much say don’t pay attention to those poopy boys, I said, well “Boys rule and girls drool”.
Now she was annoyed and said, “it’s not true” so I asked her why she thought that–and she went on to list things:
The girls got better grades
Were not disgusting
There was a girl in school that had a soccer kick stronger than any boy
She went on and on. So I gave her a big smile and she realized that it was another of those crazy stunts her uncle Jack likes to pull. I told her now you know that there is no one better than another person—she still held her view that boys are poopy heads, but she understood—the lesson was not that those boys were jerks ( which we are but some of us out grow it—don’t ask MrsJH ❤, she’s a poopy head 😀 ) but that she is a strong individual and what they think doesn’t matter.
Now a teen, she is not only a BRAIN but a Jock, plays several musical instruments is popular, super nice— to her there are no uncool kids, other than jerks, from time to time I walk by her and say ” Boys Rule And Girls Drool!” she gives me a grin with a faux air of disgust and says YOU!
now if she only made blueberry pancakes so I don’t have to on weekends we are together she would be perfect—–the hell with it SHE IS PERFECT! and a girl to boot.
And that’s why I used the post title, to celebrate women’s achievements.
