Professionalism in policing requires neutrality or it abandons the moral high ground. The NYPD has abandoned professionalism for political cover. It’s one thing to stand accused of being a one sided political enforcer, but quite another to announce it yourself. The NYPD has, and in doing so thrown any semblance of trust and moral authority to the wind. Essentially, they and their right wing supporters have declared civil war.
I expect this nonsense from rightwing nutjobs, but for the police to abandon the very definition of their profession to become an armed camp is inexcusable.
If a dentist chooses to treat patients differently based on whether he sees them sympathetic or not, they’re a lousy dentist. If an architect used double standards for safety based on politics, their reputation would be destroyed. But instead of focusing on the integrity of their profession, the NYPD has said the mayor isn’t welcome at police funerals and that the community will be served cordially only if they support the police politically, others can expect to be f*cked with.
If Mayor de Blasio had told a large contingent of his city they had no reason to protest, to accept the Grand Jury’s process and never question authority, does anyone think that would have prevented officers from being killed? More likely the toll would be much higher from the outrage.
Bill de Blasio affirmed peoples right to protest for justice, and urged them to do it peacefully. The NYPD went off the rails with a political response, affirming to the aggrieved community they could not be trusted. Now turning their backs on the mayor in wake of their fallen officers, they’ve underscored it.
The absurdity in this is if they had remained stoically neutral and let the politics and policy sort itself out, they would’ve been viewed much more sympathetically by the entire community. But no, they’re an armed camp now, and the society they once served has been ruptured by their infantile self serving petulance.
forgot to get off my soapbox and give a link…
those cops are the very poster-children for what’s wrong with “law enforcement” today, these disgraceful petulant children need a good slap!
“infantile self serving petulance.” Caller you have such an interesting command of the English language. I am am loving your word choice and turn of phase. Poetic.
I might have seen the next political meme a-borning a minute ago gingrick on candy crowley’s show, he was having some issue with his eye watering like tears forming as he talked about jeb running! (not that he was actually being especially positive about it) Just going to wait and see if this picks up and ends up being a meme, the reich-wingers weeping for a new bush president!
come on you give it a shot, I believes in ya!
