“You can observe a lot by watching.”–Yogi Berra.

In a sport of giants, Lawrence Peter “Yogi” Berra, stood not as an icon but a humble man of the people. He symbolized the true heart of the sport that goes beyond the multi-million dollar contracts or the self-grandizing of players that demand  people pay for an autographed ball.

His yogisms are part of the American lexicon and he was immortalized in cartoon form as the picnic basket thief Yogi bear. He was all that is good in a sport that has forgotten that “the national” sport is about accessibility for all Americans–Yogi is gone but his legacy will live on and won’t be over.

Pope Francis Arrives in New York After Touring Washington – The New York Times

Pope Francis arrived in New York City on Thursday, his plane touching down at Kennedy International Airport shortly after 5 p.m. as he began the second leg of his whirlwind tour of the United States.

After walking off the plane, he greeted several schoolchildren, who presented him with a book of prayers written by students. He chatted amiably, giving each child a pat on the head and greeting others gathered on the tarmac. He laughed when he was handed a bobblehead version of himself before boarding a helicopter and heading to Manhattan.
