“Gov. Nikki Haley of South Carolina and former Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana are the first Indian-Americans of national political stature and fame. This always seemed to hold a message for the other 3 million of us: You can be anything you want in America, but if that thing is a governor, you’d better be a Southern Republican who converted to Christianity, with a “Gone With the Wind” accent and a super-unmenacing name. (Bonus points for having aided an exorcism, as Jindal has.) For many of us, it was a dispiriting lesson. Most Indian-Americans dwell outside the South, most lean Democratic, most aren’t Christian and — though this is, admittedly, anecdotal — most don’t go by Bobby or Nikki.”

those are the only kind the reich-wing would ever accept or dare-say embrace!

“with a “Gone With the Wind” accent and a super-unmenacing name.”

lol, so true. “Piyush Jindal” probably wouldn’t have made it very far in Louisiana politics. But, ‘Bobby’, on the other hand…. Same goes for Nimrata “Nikki” Randhawa.

      • bebe says:

HA..i had no idea his name was ” Piyush” and Bobby from that ?
Couldn`t he be a little more inventive on that.
Nimrata became Nikki and married Haley that was easy 🙄

There are certain things I can “ACCEPT” or in my most generous mood give Haley credit for that Jindal can never earn. That she speaks with pride about being a sikh in a way that Jindal could never do justice is part of being an American, the nation is after all a melting pot, each nationality adding to its strength.

I don’t hold it against any immigrant or children of immigrants adopting an Anglicized nick name, that is also part of being an American too—antiquated in lieu of a man named Barack becoming POTUS but nevertheless not an issue.

The issue is that both put aside the very “DEMOCRATIC” tenets that allowed their immigrant parents to flourish in the US. Why? Simply put they have debased themselves to the point that they have not only their community’s contempt but that of everyone under the Democratic banner.

To me in the end they are both REPUBLICAN garbage, that they have immigrant parents is inconsequential. I find that because they are accepted by the Republicans in the south just because they have ASSIMILATED to their norms an utter failure of what the American Dream represents, how partly, how sad.

True about taking easy names..lot of folks have done that with Jewish names, Russians and so forth. There is not any shred of decency in Jindal’s personality. He should be proud of his own heritage . But was known to whitewash his portrait in Govs mention.

Nicki is more of a cleaver sort. She is aware of her looks and had that smile when Trump mentioned her name..but of course nothing is wrong with that 😆

In 1993 Meeting, Hillary Clinton Acknowledged “Convincing Case” for Single-Payer https://theintercept.com/2016/01/16/in-1993-meeting-hillary-clinton-acknowledged-convincing-case-for-single-payer/

“Clinton’s campaign is now accusing Sanders of wanting to “dismantle Obamacare” as well as Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program. During an appearance on The Rachel Maddow Show, the candidate claimed the Sanders single-payer plan would “end all the kinds of health care we know.”

These claims drew a “mostly false” from Politifact; the Sanders program wouldn’t eliminate these programs so much as expand and consolidate them. Just as the merger of two companies does not abolish or dismantle either company, consolidating Medicaid and Medicare while expanding them to all Americans would not eliminate them.

Another thing that has changed since 1993 is that the health care industry has lavished both Clintons with money. That includes $2.8 million in fees from paid speeches Hillary Clinton gave since stepping down from the State Department in 2013. Her husband continues to give paid speeches, including one to the health insurance lobby this past summer.”

What I find disgusting is that; just about every Obamacare supporter with a pulse made the argument that Obamacare is a first step towards universal healthcare, that it would morph into such a program under a good democrat. Now the sniveling, putrid mindless, hyper partisan buckets of offal are pushing the idea HELLary is ramming down the sour end of their digestive tract.

      • Darth says:

I never believed that Obamacare is a first step towards universal healthcare, and anytime I would ask I never got a sufficient explanation. Because there isn’t one. The structure is completely different. One is a capitalistic, market driven system where the mandate is on the individual to purchase healthcare from a corporation, the other is a mandate on the government to provide health insurance to ALL of its citizens. Not just those who can afford it or qualify for subsidies. If anything universal healthcare got put on the back burner (or tossed overboard IMO) because the ACA became such a partisan issue. I know Bernie couldn’t pass single payer all by himself, but the momentum has to start again somewhere.

What did he expect from that tripe? She is the one married to a hedge fund manager, she is the one that shills her husband on the Clinton foundation events to get him clients—that entire family is ABOUT THEIR OWN PERSONAL WEALTH AND EGO.
