John Fetterman is the 6 foot 8 tattooed mayor of Braddock, Pennsylvania, and he’s running for U.S. Senate. He sits down with Chris Hayes.
I SOOOOoooo want this guy as Senator, we need to be rid of our current reich-winger. Unfortunately the establishment want McGinty… on paper she sounds very good, but when I hear her actually talk, she sounds all too… “scripted”, somehow false, and “managed”, maybe “coached”… I don’t get the authenticity I get from him. She sounds to me like another “incrementalist”.

Hey is it worth Maher now as I see Huff queen was there, should I. ?
But why oh why she was there ?

      • MSolomon2 says:

She and he are friends, she was talking about people’s lack of good sleep and it was a good talk. She had good and true things to say, regardless of how she may conduct herself in other “endeavors”.

  2. Bernie Sanders meets with the Pope at the Vatican.

Meanwhile, George Clooney holds a million dollar fundraiser for Hillary Clinton. In protest, I vow never to watch “Tomorrowland” again.

Shiling-for-SHillary, I’m thoroughly disgusted! On the other hand Susan Sarandon was on Maher last night pro-Bernie, and she was great! Maher was saying his usual, if not bernie we gotta bite-the-bullet and take the “lesser evil”, she wasn’t having any of it! Good for her! NO-MORE! “lesser-evil”! – it’s still evil!
(wasn’t that great a movie the 1st time. (it was ok))

I’m so glad Bernie got to meet the pope Haruko. He will always remember.

    • Darth says:

I remember some news talking heads were ridiculing him that he “invited himself” and no way he ever gonna meet the Pope. The were being really dismissive. I wonder how that crow tastes?

  3. Bernie Sanders, a Jew, takes Israel to task for its violence toward Palestinians.

a beautiful thing to see someone finally do so, it’s been a kind of un-spoken 3rd rail in Murican politics for faaaaar too long!

Just saw this story appear online in USA Today (here are some excerpts from the article)

Hundreds of ‘Democracy Spring’ protesters arrested in D.C. – USA Today

Police arrested hundreds of people protesting the influence of money in politics this week in Washington, D.C.

U.S. Capitol Police arrested more than 900 protesters through Saturday afternoon. The mass demonstrations called “Democracy Spring” began Monday. Those arrested were charged with violating a D.C. statute prohibiting  “crowding, obstructing, or incommoding,”

Actress Rosario Dawson said in a video posted on YouTube on Friday that the group hopes to surpass all previous Capitol protest records for number arrested, topping 1,000 by the time the week-long demonstration wraps up Monday.

The Democracy Spring effort started in Philadelphia, where thousands began a 140-mile walk to the U.S. Capitol to “demand Congress take immediate action to end the corruption of big money in our politics and ensure free and fair elections in which every American has an equal voice.”

“This week, we’re taking back our democracy,” Dawson said. Money in politics has “distorted our politics and our issues.”

Many of the protesters, including Dawson, held up signs protesting the Supreme Court’s 2010 ruling in the so-called Citizens United case. This case opened the door for the rise of Super PACs – political action committees that can raise unlimited amounts from virtually any source and contributed to corporate influence in campaigns, critics say.

Heard about this website from the people at Democracy Spring. Posted some of it here.

We made this film to educate and entertain, but it’s also a CALL TO ACTION. Here’s how you can join the movement. Click through the solutions below to learn and do more…

    Your vote/voice matters!

So many people don’t vote because they don’t think it makes a difference. It does! Every vote counts (remember the hanging chads?). Many registered voters are unable to cast their ballots because of voter suppression efforts, but there are ways to change this… Find out how other countries get 90% turnout for their elections!

Did you know twenty-five states have programs that provide public funds for election campaigns?

Public financing of campaigns encourages candidates to be:

Accountable to all voters in a district instead of focusing on wealthy areas and individuals
Involved with constituents because almost all their time can be spent on their work – not on fundraising
WE need to know who’s making the donations that are currently putting candidates in office. This will enable us to make informed choices about who the candidates are and who they’re accountable to. Will they listen to you, the voter, or to corporate lobbyists?

Many states have non-partisan redistricting, but this isn’t the case in all 50 states. In seven states where Republicans redrew the lines, 16.7 million votes were cast for Republicans and 16.4 million for Democrats. This elected 73 Republicans and 34 Democrats. This outcome didn’t match public opinion. The will of the people is clearly not being heard in these states.
Most of the money spent in political campaigns is spent on campaign ads. The candidates with the most money have the loudest voices, drowning out ordinary people running for office. In other countries, negative ads aren’t even allowed. Politicians are given free and equal airtime so that you can learn about what they stand for in a level and fair manner.
Since the devastating Citizens United v. FEC Supreme Court decision, over 650 cities and 16 states have passed resolutions calling for a constitutional amendment. Even Former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens has written a book called The Six Amendments, with two amendments that are aligned with our solutions.

  6. Darth says:

We’ll never see those transcripts, unless there’s a leak.

Releasing the Goldman Sachs Transcripts May End Hillary Clinton’s Campaign

“Clinton argued that she’s being held to an unfair standard, hinting that she would release the transcripts if Bernie Sanders released his tax returns.

Sanders called her bluff and plans to release his 2014 tax returns today, which should show just over $200,000 in income, according to the Washington Post. But Clinton has so far shown no indication she will be releasing the transcripts of any of her Goldman Sachs speeches. The content of those speeches will likely remain a secret right up until the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia in July.”

Democracy Spring Sit In Day 6 Public Stream

    • waverly says:

PAY 2 PLAY: Democracy’s High Stakes is an entertaining documentary about the corrupting influence of money in politics featuring Robert Reich, Lawrence Lessig, Marianne Williamson, Noam Chomsky, Van Jones and more. The film explores the status quo and offers a set of simple solutions we can all work on together to take back our democracy.
