Reining in the Corporate influence on news media should be one of the few Bi-partisan issues that for anyone not sitting on the board of some, “TOO BIG TO FAIL”conglomerate or who doesn’t have an offshore bank account should be looking to support.
The media has always been under scrutiny because of bias. It used to be that “journalistic bias” was a result of journalists that let their objectivity be compromised. We as people are imperfect, even great journalists fail to live up by the high standards set upon them. People’s careers used to be made or destroyed by integrity-sadly, this is no longer true.
In our world integrity is a buzzword and the meaning is fluid; not that this is part of a paradigm shift in the way people think but the end result of us becoming jaded, blind sheep in a herd following the latest controversial tweet and misinformation-ripe for the picking.
The problem is not only about the bias that represents us–don’t lie to yourself, it’s always been about “Us Versus Them” but that’s just view preference. The left / right news viewer bias is but a mere pimple on a roach’s ass compared to the collusion between politics and corporations that control the media today.
The news can LEGALLY lie http://www.projectcensored.org/11-the-media-can-legally-lie/
Take the current presidential primaries. On one hand you have the so called “liberal media” CBS, ABC, and NBC, cable channels CNN, MSNBC. On the other the Right-Wing media giant Faux News- who the hell cares, I guess my own bias is showing right now.
One would think that on the left the debate should cover policy, and the candidate’s records but instead we get BOXING MATCHES purposely designed to expose a trivial weakness of a candidate, any tid-bit that the Corporate news outlets deems unworthy and uses to destroy the non-establisment candiate—on the right? Who the hell cares, did I mention that my own bias is showing right now?
Perhaps; true objectivity lies outside Network news? Try again! AOL owns, the ONCE KING liberal ghost own known as The Huffington Post on the Right you have websites like Townhall owned by Satan?
It’s no big surprise that increasingly people have turned to smaller venues that claim to be NEUTRAL and corporate influence free. Well let’s take a looksie at a random online publication.
From time to time I crawl “the great Al Gore’s Internetz”, looking for the latest news, what?! do you think I turning on MSNBC?,today was such a time. I have seen people cite, what I like to call DailyGarbageBin http://www.dailynewsbin.com a few times.
Today’s guano installment was a complete misrepresentation of Bernie Sanders meeting with Pope Francis http://www.dailynewsbin.com/opinion/pope-confirms-he-did-not-have-a-meeting-with-bernie-sanders-handshake-and-nothing-more/24497/
Clearly the Pope met Sanders, clearly they spoke briefly, at least to detail the problems on economic injustice a topic both men are passionate about. So the RAG called DailyNewsBin ( more like garbage bin) did a hatchet job painting Sanders as dishonest about the meeting and that the Pope was belligerent towards Sanders.
Pope Francis DID make sure to state he was not endorsing anyone, that people should not take the meeting as such “Pope Francis said on Saturday that his meeting with Sanders was not meddling in politics and that anyone who thought otherwise should “look for a psychiatrist”. http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/apr/16/bernie-sanders-meets-pope-francis-at-the-vatican I love the Pontiff for saying that, he did not want to have another situation like the TRUE ambush by the right-wing bigot Kim Davis.
So why did mention the DailyGARBAGEBin at all? It’s not part of the mass media, it has a limited audience, who do they hurt? Simply because it’s one of those publications that LIES when it claims to be a neutral voice, saying that it reports what the media ignores with an unbiased point of view. Clearly it is not. We have many such bubbles on the internet seemingly they appear to be an alternative to the mass media “MONSTERS” but in their insular world, they are just as damaging as any corporate owned echo chamber.
We need to make it a national point to address the rampant corporate influence of the media because they are not only censoring, as the project media censoring article shows, but they are changing the political landscape to in effect dictate who can become president. The mass media are spawning independent misinformation sites, I cannot think anything more dire situation impacting the current presidential primaries.
