Partial evacuation possibly underway in North Korean capital
Kim Jong Un is reported to have ordered the evacuation of over 600,000 people from North Korea’s capital city, Pyongyang.

Experts note that the evacuation will most likely be conducted due to extremely strained tensions in relations with the US.
North Korea has an extensive system of shelters, but it’s not clear where the evacuated people are being sent.

Meanwhile, reports that China was cancelling flight service to Pyongyang appears to be incorrect, though some individual flights have been dropped because ticket sales to the North Korean capital are, understandably, low.

Earlier this week, thousands marched in Pyongyang.

Why one Republican voted to kill privacy rules: “Nobody has to use the Internet”
“A Republican lawmaker who voted to eliminate Internet privacy rules said, “Nobody’s got to use the Internet” when asked why ISPs should be able to use and share their customers’ Web browsing history for advertising purposes.

“Facebook is not comparable to an ISP. I do not have to go on Facebook,” the town hall meeting attendee said. But when it comes to Internet service providers, the person said, “I have one choice. I don’t have to go on Google. My ISP provider is different than those providers.”

That’s when Sensenbrenner said, “Nobody’s got to use the Internet.” He praised ISPs for “invest[ing] an awful lot of money in having almost universal service now.” He then said, “I don’t think it’s my job to tell you that you cannot get advertising for your information being sold. My job, I think, is to tell you that you have the opportunity to do it, and then you take it upon yourself to make the choice.”

People “ought to have more choices rather than fewer choices with the government controlling our everyday lives,” he concluded, before moving on to the next question.”

North Korea attempts but fails to launch missile: South Korea
“North Korea attempted to launch a missile on Sunday near Sinpo, on its east coast, but it is believed to have failed, South Korea’s military said.

The attempted missile launch comes a day after the North held a military parade in its capital marking the birth anniversary of the state founder where what appeared to be new ballistic missiles were displayed.

“The North attempted to launch an unidentified missile from near the Sinpo region this morning but it is suspected to have failed,” the South’s Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement.

There were no further details, and the office said it was analyzing the launch.”

I was hoping we could drop a few more MOAB bombs—-all those millions used to kill 100 dooshbags —way better than funding PBS or meals on wheels to the needy.

“The president’s 2020 campaign has already spent close to $500,000 on Trump’s businesses, from golf resorts to Trump Tower rent, according to new campaign finance filings…

$274,000 was paid in rent to Trump Tower in Manhattan where the re-election operation is headquartered, according to a tally of the reported figures totted up by the Wall Street Journal. An additional $59,000 was spent on stays at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, and $14,000 went for food and rent to the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas…

“The filings also reveal the salaries of Trump’s reelection workers, including 27-year-old John Pence, nephew of Vice President Mike Pence, who was paid $40,000 for the first three months of the year.”
