I watched some of the Sanders/Cruz debate on CNN. I’m not sure if there is a more unctuous human being alive than Ted Cruz. He practically oozes into a room. If he wasn’t in the Senate I could easily see him selling used cars. Checkered blazer and all.

“In the days that followed Johnson’s death, Rep. Wilson’s 5,000 Role Models of Excellence program established a scholarship in his name. The scholarship is called the Role Model Army Sgt. La David Johnson Scholarship and will ensure that at least three children have money as they attend college. The scholarship fund was set up through GoFundMe by a member of the organiation and it raised nearly $150,000 in the first 24 hours of funding despite a $100,000 eventual goal.”

You’d see a lot more of this if they all had nothing to lose. McCain gives zero fvcks at this point.

John McCain Won’t Rest Until He Drives a Stake Through Trump’s Political Career https://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2017/10/john-mccain-wont-rest-until-he-drives-a-stake-thro.html
“It’s possible that John McCain has hated Donald Trump since the day in 2015 when Trump insulted the former POW by saying, “he’s not a war hero…I like people who weren’t captured.” It’s possible that McCain, who has long wanted to be president, is annoyed at a reality TV star who seems to have stumbled into the job. It’s possible that McCain has real, principled objections to Trump’s belligerent, impulsive, dangerous style. All three of these explanations—and many more—would be sufficient cause for animosity all by themselves. Taken together…well, they seem to have inspired a vendetta.

In short, John McCain is on the warpath.”

More power to him, and maybe he can do something toward redeeming his soul before it’s too late.

Google Is So Big, It Is Now Shaping Policy to Combat the Opioid Epidemic. And It’s Screwing It Up. https://theintercept.com/2017/10/17/google-search-drug-use-opioid-epidemic/
“Google faced pressure from an exposé in The Verge released a week earlier, documenting how shady lead generators game its AdWords system. High-cost ads based on rehab keywords referred users to phone hotlines that gave the impression of being independent information services, but were actually owned by treatment center conglomerates. Representatives, who reap large fees based on how many patients they sign up, employ high-pressure sales tactics to push people into their favored facilities, whether or not that facility is the right one for the patient.

This deceptive marketing can lead to substandard treatment and massive overbilling. It also made lots of money for Google, which was shown in the story actively courting addiction treatment advertisers.”

no corporates should ever be “shaping policy” all they know is profit, they have no (legitimate) place in governing. They are the ENEMY of The People no and always.

Supreme Court Rules in Favor of Government Transparency Against Private Prison Corporations https://ccrjustice.org/home/press-center/press-releases/supreme-court-rules-favor-government-transparency-against-private
the Supreme Court denied a petition by private prison corporations seeking to block the release of government documents about their immigration detention practices. In a case brought by the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) and Detention Watch Network (DWN), under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), a federal district court ruled in July 2016, that the government must release details of its contracts with private prison corporations.

“Today’s decision by the Supreme Court has finally put an end to private prison contractors’ relentless attempts to keep their secrets buried. Private prison contractors have a long history of hiding profiteering schemes and covering up deadly abuses in immigration detentions. With this decision, the Supreme Court has signaled agreement that private prison contractors must not act with impunity and dictate government secrecy.”

What!, the court taking The People’s side against “corporate interests”!?! – wonders-never-cease. But I doubt this’ll fix anything, the money never sleeps, it’ll find new tricks if it hasn’t already managed to find a way to pull any teeth this ruling has.
