Yeah, its been really hot and muggy here today.
It’s been really nice so far this summer. Last year was a nightmare here, 95+ for almost two months straight, it has been in the 80’s the last week, with more of the same forecast next week with a little rain.
Damn hill almost took it.
Tour of Utah, Stage 6…
19 km left, now 2 breakaway riders: Michael “Bling” Matthews (Orica) who has already won 2 stages here, and Francisco Mancebo (Kenda/5-Hour Energy). Two chase groups about 30 sec’s behind, the peloton (w/race leader Chris Horner) about 4 minutes back.
The front groups are now hitting the big climb of the day, at Empire Pass (HC-category).
Bling has broken away from Mancebo, and is now on his own heading up the mountain..
He’s no threat to Horner’s GC-lead, so they may let him go…
Mancebo has caught and dropped him! Now Mancebo is alone in front.
But chasing hard is Tommy Danielson (Garmin) who is 2nd in GC (on same time as Horner) after yesterday’s stage. Tommy D is looking to take the race from Horner!
Horner is actually about a minute back from TD, in a 3rd chase group. TD has passed Matthews and is bearing down hard on Paco Mancebo as they reach the summit of Empire Pass..
Danielson has caught and passed Mancebo!

It’s good that you keep up with events, that is a great motivator when you train. I’m given it some thought as to whether I want to get serious and train for next year. But for me it has to become an obsession when I do write in the cold, in storms – I actually like the mud – wake up at 4 AM to hit the road, spent hours looking at videos and imagine all the lines possible. I even dreamed the stuff.
Let’s not even talk about the cost and how frustrated my wife get set of the lunacy. Had many injuries over the years and the last four I gradually wound down. But it can be my last hurrah – will see in the next few weeks.

2-3 km left on the descent from Empire Pass. Mancebo has bridged back to Danielson, and Juan Acevedo has joined them so 3 leaders with Horner, Matthews and a chase group about a minute back.

Final km! Acevedo and Mancebo are dropping Danielson, bit Tommy is still well ahead of Horner so even he’s up for the overall race win..
Mancebo wins the stage in a 2-up sprint w/Acevedo!
Tommy Danielson in 3rd, but more importantly TD has won the 2013 Tour of Utah!
